THE IRISH NEWS: EDIZIONE SPECIALE DEDICATA AGLI HUNGER STRIKERS DEL 1981
The Irish News dedica quest’oggi uno special alla ricerca della verità sull’Hunger Strike del 1981 ed ai fatti che ne sono succeduti
In una nota introduttiva The Irish News parla degli ampi sforzi compiuti dalla redazione nel tentativo di reperire quante più testimonianze possibili di ufficiali e rappresentati del governo britannico e nordirlandese all’epoca dei fatti.
Nonostante l’impegno è stato impossibile raccogliere alcune testimonianze che sarebbero state sicuramente di sicuro interesse come ad esempio quelle del Primo Ministro inglese Margaret Thatcher e il segretario di stato Jim Prior (non disponibili per motivi di salute); oppure di personaggi come Gerry Adams, Brendan ‘Bik’ McFarlane e Danny Morrison ed altri funzionari che hanno preferito declinare l’invito.
Tanti altri invece, come alcuni funzionari del Maze, sono deceduti.
