Circa 80 motociclisti – molti ex soldati – hanno partecipato a Belfast, ad una manifestazione di protesta in seguito alla decisione di incriminare il ‘soldato F’ per gli omicidi della Bloody Sunday. Nello stesso giorno il Rolling Thunder ha raccolto migliaia di centauri a Londra
Press Association ha raccolto la testimonianza di un veterano dell’esercito britannico, che teme di essere il prossimo ex soldato a rischiare un’incriminazione per aver partecipato ad un’operazione durante il conflitto in Irlanda del Nord.
Tony, così a detto di chiamarsi il veterano, ha dichiarato: “Dove finirà? Abbiamo le bandiere in supporto al soldato F, ma non si tratta solo del soldato F, è il soldato a, b, c … e tutti quelli che seguono”.
“Fino a dove arriveranno, quando avranno finito con l’alfabeto, dove?”
“Stiamo dicendo che vogliamo che si fermi qui. I soldati svolsero il loro dovere in quel momento, fecero come gli era stato ordinato”.
“Fui coinvolto in un incidente per il quale fui detenuto, interrogato e rilasciato”.
“Credo di essere stato trattato giustamente in quel momento. Mi siedo e aspetto 20 anni perchè bussino alla porta?”.
“E il resto di questi signori, per lo più veterani, sono nella stessa posizione – stanno seduti e aspettano un colpo alla porta?”.
Venerdì 12 aprile, circa 80 motociclisti, molti dei quali veterani militari, sono partiti da Cultra, Co Down, per giungere a Stormont, la sede del governo decentrato a Belfast, brandendo bandiere del reggimento paracadutisti per esprimere il proprio supporto al soldato F, unico incriminato per gli omicidi del 30 gennaio 1973 a Derry.
Un altro ex veterano ha definito il soldato F, come “capro espiatorio”.
“Il governo non tutela i propri soldati. Eravamo lì ed abbiamo eseguito gli ordini ce ci furono impartiti, abbiamo fatto quello che nessun altro poteva fare o avrebbe fatto”.
