Le potreste della Time For Truth Campaign seguono le accuse del Police Ombudsman alla PSNI per non aver fornito informazioni “significative” sul massacro lealista di Ormeau Road nel 1992
Cinque persone furono uccise il 5 febbraio 1992, quando membri dell’Ulster Freedom Fighters (UFF) aprirono il fuoco nel negozio di Sean Graham a Ormeau Road.
Il vice capo della polizia della PSNI, Stephen Martin, ha chiesto scusa a nome della PSNI e ha affermato di non aver mai cercato di nascondere le informazioni all’ufficio del Police Ombudsman, riconducendo l’accaduto ad un errore umano. Una versione che non ha convinto i familiari delle vittime.
Da quì una serie di manifestazioni, come la Time for Truth March che ha contato 2000 presenze nel centro di Belfast.

Sabato, 16 febbraio, degli attivisti hanno fatto delle petizioni in varie luoghi di Belfast, tra cui Ormeau Road, in merito a 3 richieste. Tra queste: l’implementazione di meccanismi su come trattare il retaggio dei Troubles, già negoziati nel Stormont House Agreement; un finanziamento adeguato per le indagini e per l’ufficio del Police Ombudsman, al fine di consentirgli di completare inchieste storiche in sospeso.
Il portavoce di Time For Truth, Ciaran MacAirt, ha invitato le persone a firmare la petizione in solidarietà con vittime e sopravvissuti.
“Chiediamo ai cittadini di firmare la petizione e mostrare il loro sostegno alle vittime e ai sopravvissuti di tutta la comunità, a cui sono ancora negati i diritti umani fondamentali”, ha affermato.
“Guardate, ad esempio, le notizie questa settimana. Le famiglie di Ormeau Road sono state nuovamente deluse dalla PSNI”.
“Centinaia di altre famiglie stanno vivendo la stessa situazione e vengono quotidianamente ri-traumatizzate”.
“Questa potrebbe essere la ultima opportunità, per le famiglie di tutta la comunità, di affrontare il passato per le famiglie di tutta la comunità”.
