Colin Duffy was being questioned by detectives investigating dissident republican activity

The 45-year-old from Lurgan, Co Armagh, was being questioned by detectives investigating dissident republican activity.

He was detained on Wednesday morning and was taken to the PSNI‘s serious crime suite in Antrim.

A police spokesman said he had been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

Duffy is one of the most high profile republicans opposed to the power sharing Stormont Executive.

He has been cleared of murder in three separate cases involving police and army personnel.

Last year he was acquitted of all charges connected to the deaths of two soldiers at Massereene Army barracks in Antrim in 2009.

Earlier this month Duffy dropped a civil action seeking damages for wrongful arrest, false imprisonment and malicious prosecution over the shooting of two police officers 16 years ago.
