L’ex leader del UUP entra a far parte della House of Lords e promette di continuare ad occuparsi del Nord Irlanda

Trascorsi 5 anni al timone dell’Ulster Unionist Party, Sir Reg Empey aveva deciso quest’anno di abbandonare la nave arenatasi in occasione delle General Election durante le quali il partito non ha guadagnato nemmeno un seggio, lasciando così una pesante eredità al suo sostituto Tom Elliot.
Il nome di Reg Empey era stato inserito lo scorso venerdì nella lista dei Lords, la prima dall’ascesa di David Cameron alla carica di Primo Ministro del Regno Unito.
Fedele alle sue radici, Reg Empey ha lasciato intendere che continuerà ad occuparsi di Irlanda del Nord anche nel suo nuovo ruolo.

Ex-UUP leader Empey to join Lords (Belfast Telegraph)
Former Ulster Unionist leader Sir Reg Empey is to become a member of the House of Lords.
Sir Reg stood down as party leader this year after his party failed to win any seats in the General Election.
He led the party for five years and stood down as employment and learning minister after Tom Elliott became UUP leader.
His name was included in a list of peers published on Friday. It is the first list since David Cameron became Prime Minister in June.
Sir Reg said he intends to continue working for Northern Ireland in his new role.
