Nuovi quantitativi di armi da fuoco, soprattutto pistole e revolvers, sono stati sequestrati dalla PSNI attraverso raid e perquisizioni.
Alcune delle armi sembrano essere riconducibili al periodo precedente il cessate il fuoco del PIRA, i numeri di serie di altre sono stati rintracciati, invece, nelle liste fornite dal governo libico al Foreign Office britannico.
I nuovi sequestri – che la PSNI rifiuta di commentare – supportano la stima stilata dallo Special Branch del RUC, secondo la quale circa il 60% di tutte le armi dell’Ira vennero smantellate cinque anni fa. Da aprile 2008 sono più di 170 le armi, non registrate, sequestrate dal Police Service of Northern Ireland.

More Provisional IRA guns are turning up in searches and raids carried out by the PSNI.
Security sources say the weapons — mainly pistols and revolvers — have been linked to the IRA via ballistic testing and documentation.
Some of the weapons have been traced to pre-ceasefire attacks while others have been matched by their serial numbers to the inventory of guns and ammunition supplied by the Libyan government to the British Foreign Office.
The discoveries — which the PSNI refuses to discuss — support the RUC Special Branch estimation that around 60% of all IRA weapons were decommissioned five years ago.
Since April 2008 more than 170 unregistered guns have been seized by the PSNI.
