MLA’s home in overnight attack (BBC News Northern Ireland)
The home of Sinn Fein assembly member Mitchel McLaughlin has been damaged in an overnight attack.
A window was broken at the front of the property in Londonderry at about 0500 BST on Monday. No-one was injured.
Mr McLaughlin said he was woken by a loud noise and went downstairs where he saw the damage.
“I looked out onto the street, there was a big rock which must’ve bounced back but there was no-one to be seen. It was such a cowardly event”
“As I understand it there was a number of other incidents last night so there are clearly people running around up to mischief,” he said.
“If the intention was to intimidate people then they need to learn it’s not going to work.”
“My home has been attacked before, I’ve been warned on numerous occasions about a threat to my life but I’ve heard nothing recently.”
“These things happen, it seems to go with the territory of trying to make politics work,” he added.
A suspect object was also left near the former home of Sinn Fein MP Martin McGuinness one street away.
