PSNI confirm probe into shots fired in Creggan pub (Derry Journal)
Police in Derry have confirmed they are probing claims as reported in the Derry Journal, that shots were fired in a Creggan pub.
It is understood that masked men entered the Telstar public bar armed with sticks looking for an individual.
They left on finding that the person concerned had left.
The gang returned a short while later, one of them carrying a handgun and shots were discharged.
SDLP MLA Pat Ramsey condemned the incident.
He said; “It is very distressing that once again people in this area have been subjected to this type of behaviour by dissident republicans. This is a busy place where people have gone to socialise on a Saturday afternoon.”
There are no reports of any injuries being sustained in the incident.
Chief Inspector Andy Lemon confirmed, “Police investigations into this report are already underway and I appeal to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area around this time or anyone who has information about the incident to contact Detectives at Strand Road on the non-emergency number 101. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
