McGUINNESS ORDINO’ L’OMICIDIO DI JOANNE MATHERS NEL 1981

McGuinness ‘gave orders to kill census worker’, claims informer (NewsLetter)

Martin McGuinness ordered the killing of 29-year-old census worker Joanne Mathers in 1981, an ex-Special Branch agent has claimed.

According to a Sunday newspaper, Raymond Gilmour, who infiltrated the IRA, is to name the current Deputy First Minister as having a role in the killing.

According to the Sunday Life, Mr Gilmour will say in his forthcoming book: “Nothing, and I mean nothing, happened in Derry without the say so and nod from Martin McGuinness… so I can say with absolute certainty that McGuinness gave the order to kill Ms Mathers.”

A Sinn Fein spokesman said last night: “Raymond Gilmour was an informer and supergrass on whom the RUC Special Branch based its corrupt strategy of perjured evidence to convict republicans. This strategy ended in tatters with trial judge Lord Lowry ruling that Gilmour was not a credible witness. He said he was, ‘entirely unworthy of belief… a selfish and self-regarding man, to whose lips a lie comes more naturally than the truth’.”
