Hanno suscitato indignazione le parole di scuse di Sean Kelly per le vittime del massacro di Shankill Road, pronunciate in occasione della commemorazione della morte del volontario dell’IRA Thomas Begley

“Sono davvero dispiaciuto per la perdita di vite umane, per le ferite che sono state inflite quel giorno, e per la sofferenza che famiglie hanno dovuto sopportare”, aveva ieri dichiarato Sean Kelly.

“In questo includo, ovviamente , il mio dolore per la morte del mio amico, compagno e volontario (dell’IRA) Thomas Begley”.

Nove persone, tutti i protestanti , trovarono la morte nel massacro risalente al 23 ottobre 1993.

Sean Kelly, che fu estratto dalle macerie, fu condannato a nove ergastoli, ma venne rilasciato nel 2000, secondo i termini dell’Accordo del Venerdì Santo.

“Come può scusarsi con un respiro e poi lodare Thomas Begley come un eroe? ” ha dichiarato al Belfast Telegraph John Scott, nipote di Wilma McKee, morta nell’attentato. “Io non credo che lui pensi una sola di quelle parole. Tutto quello che sta facendo, è gettare sale sulle ferite dei familiari delle vittime”.
