Gun victim’s mum in ‘no revenge’ plea (UTV)
The mother of Co Londonderry man Andrew Allen, who was shot dead in Buncrana last week, has appealed for no retaliation over his murder.
Mr Allen, 24, was originally from the Waterside area of the city, but republican elements had ordered him to leave.
On Thursday the father-of-two was gunned down through the window of the Co Donegal rented home in which he was living.
Speaking at the funeral service held on Monday, Fr Daniel McFaul read an emotional appeal from the young victim’s mother for no retaliation.
“Andrew’s family spoke to me yesterday evening about his death and have asked me to plead for no retaliation,” Fr McFaul said.
“To hear you Donna, his mother, a woman in the midst of grief, loss and pain, that no family should be put through what Andrew’s killers have put you through is an inspiration and an example to all of us”.
Mr Allen was amongst six people forced to leave their homes in the Top Of The Hill area of the city last August, following a threat from the vigilante group Republican Action Against Drugs.
Fr McFaul described the circumstances of Andrew Allen’s death as an act of brutality which had brought an evil darkness to both sides of the border in the north west.
He said the actions of those who took part in what he called “this vigilante behaviour” showed a blatant disregard for the sacredness of life.
No organisation has yet claimed responsibility for Mr Allen’s murder.
Following requiem mass he was buried in Altnagelvin Cemetery.
