DAVID CAMERON RENDE OMAGGIO A RONAN KERR

David Cameron pays tribute to Ronan Kerr’s heartbroken mother (Belfast Telegraph)
Prime Minister David Cameron yesterday paid tribute to the bravery shown by Nuala Kerr in the wake of her son Ronan’s murder.
During a meeting of the Cabinet in London he also expressed his “deep sadness” at the killing of the 25-year-old Roman Catholic police officer in a booby-trap car bomb on Saturday.
Mr Cameron reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting the PSNI in tackling the increase in dissident activity and praised the comments made by Mrs Kerr urging Catholics not to be deterred from joining the force.
His pledge came shortly before Constable Kerr’s funeral was held in Co Tyrone. The funeral sparked an unprecedented show of unity as police officers and senior nationalist sporting officials shouldered his coffin.
A Downing Street spokesman said: “The Prime Minister expressed his deep sadness at the death of the young police officer killed in Northern Ireland and paid tribute to his brave mother and the statement she had made.
“He acknowledged the remarkable show of unity across Ireland in repulsion to the attacks and said the Government had already provided an extra £200m for the Police Service of Northern Ireland and stood ready to do more where we could.”
