Liam Adams, fratello del leader del Sinn Fein, è ricercato in Irlanda del Nord per rispondere dei 18 capi d’accusa per abusi sessuali anche nei confronti della figlia Aine Tyrell.
Proprio quest’ultima, rinunciando al suo diritto di anonimato lo scorso dicembre, ha portato alla pubblica attenzione i reati commessi dal padre che le usò violenza dal marzo 1977 al marzo 1983.
Il 54enne Liam Adams, si è consegnato lo scorso marzo alle autorità irlandese dopo che era stato spiccato un mandato di arresto europeo. L’uomo ha sempre negato di essere fuggito dall’Irlanda del Nord per sottrarsi alla giustizia penale, ma ha sempre sostenuto che sarebbe potuto derivare pericolo per i suoi figli dalle notizie apparse sui giornali.
Il procedimento di estradizione sarà discusso dinnanzi alla High Court di Dublino. Liam Adams è convinto che a Belfast non sarebbe possibile ottenere un processo equo.
L’imputato è attualmente libero su cauzione.

The brother of Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams is expected to challenge his extradition on sex abuse charges.
Liam Adams is wanted in Northern Ireland to answer 18 charges of sexual abuse, including rape, indecent assault and gross indecency against his daughter.
The 54-year-old, who handed himself over to authorities in the Irish Republic in March after a European arrest warrant was served, is planning to fight the application.
The case is due before Dublin’s High Court.
The alleged offences against his daughter Aine Tyrell, who waived her right to anonymity last December, date from March 1977 to March 1983.
He already denied he fled Northern Ireland more than a year ago to escape prosecution but claims he feared he and his children were in danger after media reports of the allegations.
He also maintains he will not get a fair trial in Belfast.
Adams, who is unemployed and living in rented accommodation, has been on bail.
