I familiari di Kieran Doherty accusano l’MI5 di intimidazioni nei mesi precedenti al suo assassinio

Kieran Doherty, vittima giustiziato dal Rel IRA a Derry in un’area di confine con il Donegal, come rivelato nelle ultime ore, era stato avvicinato più volte dall’MI5.
Nella giornata di ieri, 26 febbraio, è stato reso noto un comunicato della famiglia Doherty con la richiesta che venga fatta luce sulle numerose intimidazioni subite dal ragazzoda parte dei servizi segreti.
La famiglia ha confermato la condanna al carcere di Kieran, assicurando il suo cambio di direzione nelle scelte di vita dal momento del rilascio.
“Kieran era un uomo buono e dignitoso e stava cercando di condurre una vita normale ed era in attesa di sposarsi.”
L’attenzione viene poi spostata sull’operato del MI5.
“Kieran era stato sottoposto a molestie continue dal MI5 nei mesi precedenti la sua morte”, dice la nota.
“I ripetuti tentativi sono stati effettuati nell’intento di reclutarlo come informatore. Egli ha respinto tutti questi tentativi”.
Nonostante tutto le intimidazioni non potevano non essere fonte di un forte stress. E’ stato sottolineato come negli ultimi mesi della sua vita la vittima avesse peso, fosse stato ricoverato in ospedale per depressione e fosse ormai quasi incapace di parlare al suo partner.
I familiari hanno ora chiesto l’apertura di un’inchiesta sul MI5.

The family of a man found shot dead near Londonderry on Wednesday night have issued a statement denying that he was an informer or drug dealer.
Kieran Doherty, 31, was found naked and bound on the Braehead Road near the Irish border.
On Friday, his family said that he had been the subject of “continuous harassment” by MI5.
The Real IRA has admitted responsibility for killing Mr Doherty who, it said, was one of its members.
The family’s statement admitted that he had been in jail but claimed he had been “trying to get on with his life” since then.
“Kieran was under continuous harassment by MI5 in the months before his death,” the statement said.
“Repeated attempts were made to recruit him as an informer. He rejected all these attempts.”
Mr Doherty’s family said they want an inquiry into MI5’s involvement with Mr Doherty.
The statement added: “Kieran was a good and decent man trying to lead a normal life and looking forward to getting married.”
They said in the last months of his life he was stressed, lost weight, was treated in hospital for depression and was sometimes almost unable to speak to his partner.
