Il SDLP scende in campo a difesa e a tutela della Parades Commission esprimendo critiche per bocca del portavoce Alex Attwood, nei confronti di Sinn Fein e DUP che ne hanno richiesto lo scioglimento, onde evitare un’ulteriore escalation della già delicata questione delle marce orangiste.
Il partito si prepara infatti oggi a lanciare proposte sulla gestione del contestato argomento delle parate.
Attwood, ha dichiarato: “Conseguentemente agli eventi di Ardoyne e in altri luoghi nei giorni 13 e 14 luglio, è necessario cercare ora di pacificare la situazione in vista della prossima grande parata dell’8 agosto.
“Vogliamo anche mettere in guardia i cittadini sui danni che determinate azioni potrebbero arrecare alla devolution dei poteri di giustizia, secondo i termini del DUP”.

Call for Parades Commission protection (U TV)
The Parades Commission must be protected and backed, according to the SDLP.
The message comes as the party prepares to launch proposals on the management of disputed parades on Monday.
Equality spokesman Alex Attwood is critical of calls from the DUP and SF for the Commission to be abolished – he said the parading issue must not be allowed to escalate.
Mr Attwood said: “Given the course of events in Ardoyne and elsewhere on July 13th and subsequent days, steps need to be taken now to de-escalate the situation ahead of the next big parade on 8th August.
“We also want to warn people about the dangers of arranging the devolution of justice on DUP terms.
“We believe they will seek the abolition of the Parades Commission and its replacement with the flawed Ashdown proposals. This is not the way to go.”
