Come mi ha fatto notare Riccardo Michelucci dalle pagine del suo blog, la morte di Michael Bradley (uno dei sopravvissuti alla Bloody Sunday) è passata sotto gamba praticamente a tutti, me compresa. Mea culpa…
Bradley, all’epoca di quella sanguinosa domenica del 1972, aveva 22 anni e fu ferito agli avambracci ed al petto dai colpi sparati dal regimento paracadutisti britannico.
Nonostante i segni indelebili del ferimento che lo hanno reso disabile, egli si è sempre battutto per la ricerca della verità celata dietro alla Bloody Sunday, che si spera venga presto svelata al termine dell’inchiesta ormai giunta alle battute finali.
Michael Bradley si è spento nel sonno il 2 maggio scorso, a seguito di un sospetto attacco di cuore.

Michael Bradley, the Bloody Sunday gunshot victim who has campaigned for justice for the dead and injured, died suddenly yesterday. Bradley was 22 when he was shot in both forearms and the chest by members of the Parachute Regiment during a civil rights march in Derry in 1972. Thirteen people were killed and another man died four months later from his injuries. Martin McGuinness, Stormont’s deputy first minister, last night led the tributes to Bradley, whom he had met with campaigners last week. “Mickey was very seriously wounded on Bloody Sunday when British paratroopers launched a murderous attack on a civil rights march,” said McGuinness. “Although carrying the physical symptoms of that attack ever since, Mickey never ceased in his efforts, along with the other Bloody Sunday families, to fight for the full truth of what happened on that fateful day to be revealed.” Bradley died in his sleep from a suspected heart attack at his home in the Glenowen area of Derry.
