La famiglia di Denis Donaldson, ufficiale Sinn Fein assassinato 5 anni fa dopo aver confessato di essere una spia, è convinta che un incaricato dello Special Branch sia in possesso di informazioni di vitale importanza nel proseguio delle indagini della Garda

I familiari di Denis Donaldson sono frustrati per la mancanza di progressi nelle indagini. Donaldson fu ucciso nel 2006, pochi mesi dopo aver pubblicamente ammesso il suo ruolo di informatore dello Special Branch e dell’MI5.
Dopo due anni e mezzo dall’ultimo faccia a faccia tra Garda e la famiglia Donaldson, è stato rivelato l’annullamento di un incontro la scorsa settimana.
“Ci sono gravi discrepanze e anomalie nelle relazioni relative alle circostanze che hanno portato all’omicidio di Denis Donaldson”, ha dichiarato la famiglia.
Nel dicembre 2005 Donaldson aveva ricevuto un avvertimento scritto dalla polizia, secondo il quale stava per essere dato in pasto ai media.
E’ stato rivelato che Donaldson ricevette una telefonata da un incaricato dello Special Branch, identificatosi con il nome di Lenny e subito dopo fuggì da Belfast.
“Perchè l’inchiesta della Garda nell’omicidio sia efficace, approfondita e indipendente, è necessario che esamini, le motivazioni, le identità, le attività, i collegamenti, le comunicazioni ed i movimenti dell’incaricato dello Special Branch, Lenny, ed i loro associati nello Special Branch”, ha affermato la famiglia.
“Lenny è intimamente informato sulle vicenda dell’omicidio di Deni, Lenny porta con se le risposte a molte domande”.

Special Branch handler key in probe (UTV)
The family of high-ranking Sinn Féin official Denis Donaldson, who was murdered five years ago for being a spy, believe his Special Branch handler has secret information that could help the Garda murder investigation.
The family of Mr Donaldson, who was murdered in 2006 just months after publicly admitting his role as a Special Branch and MI5 informer, claim British state agencies, particularly Special Branch, are “central to the murder”.
They say they are increasingly frustrated and concerned by the lack of progress in the murder inquiry.
It is almost two and a half years since the last face-to-face meeting between Gardai and the family, who said authorities cancelled a planned meeting last week.
Mr Donaldson had been Sinn Féin’s chief administrator at Stormont.
He threw his party colleagues into crisis when he confessed to being a paid spy for the RUC‘s Special Branch and for MI5 for 20 years.
Four months later, he was shot dead in a cottage in a remote part of Donegal by the Real IRA.
“There are serious discrepancies and anomalies in accounts relating to the circumstances leading up to Denis’ Donaldson’s murder”, the family said on Thursday.
They say Mr Donaldson received a written warning from police that he was about to be exposed in the media in December 2005.
They say he was telephoned by his Special Branch handler, identified only as ‘Lenny’.
“This call caused Denis to secretly flee Belfast immediately”, the family said.
“For the Gardai murder inquiry to be effective, thorough and independent it must examine the identities, motivations, activities, links, communications and movements of the Special Branch handler Lenny and their Special Branch associates”.
“Lenny is intimately informed about the events surrounding Denis’ murder, Lenny holds the answers to many questions,” they said.
