DERRY. DUPLICE ALLARME BOMBA NEL WATERSIDE
There are security alerts in the Waterside area of Londonderry after suspicious objects were found in two separate places.
At about 10:24 GMT police discovered an object in the front garden of a home in Trafalgar Court.
A second object has been discovered at Jeffrey Avenue, also in the Waterside area of the city.
Army bomb experts are at the scene of both alerts.
Police have closed roads around Trafalgar Court, Brigade Road at Rossdowney roundabout and advised people to avoid the area of Jeffrey Avenue and Harkness Gardens.
DUP councillor Drew Thompson, who is at Trafalgar Court, said: “I have been told by the PSNI that it is a suspect pipe bomb left in a home in Trafalgar Court.”
He said that up to 20 homes had been evacuated.
“There’s a residential home close by, they haven’t been evacuated but they have been made aware and are moving to the back of the premises.”
Community centres have been opened for those who have had to leave their homes.
Insp Sam Shearer said: “A suspicious object has been located in the front garden of a property.
“A cordon is in place at Limavady Road and Broomhill Avenue and members of the public should avoid the area at present.”
