CO. FERMANAGH, RAID IN UNA FATTORIA: SEQUESTRATE BOMBE, ARMI E MUNIZIONI
Home-made explosives, six pipe bombs, a firearm and around 100 rounds of ammunition were found during a large scale police search of a Co Fermanagh farm.
Police also said around 500kg of fertilizer, timer units, detonators and fuses were found along with forensic suits and gloves.
The property in a rural area outside Kinawley was cordoned off on Wednesday.
The searches ended on Saturday evening with all the materials uncovered taken away for forensic examination.
Detective Superintendent Kevin Geddes said: “Firstly I would like to thank the members of the public in the Kinawley area for their patience whilst my officers carried out a professional, policing operation over a number of days which has recovered a quantity of munitions.
“The items we have recovered have the potential to cause injury, damage and death, and Northern Ireland is a safer place with these items beyond the reach of the dangerous individuals who would seek to use them.”
A 43-year-old man was arrested in Kinawley on Wednesday and remains in custody helping police with their enquiries.
During the searches, Chief Constable George Hamilton said the investigation prevented “violent dissident republicans” from causing serious harm.
