CARRICKFERGUS, EVACUATA STAZIONE DELLA PSNI
A suspect object was brought into enquiries office prompting an evacuation
Police have said Carrickfergus station has now been evacuated along with several other premises and homes in the area.
Army bomb experts have been sent to the scene.
Police said the evacuation was caused after a “suspicious object” was carried into the enquiries office by a member of the public.
The Larne Road has also been closed.
It’s understood road blocks are also in place towards the end of Victoria Road close to the station.
One of those evacuated amid the ongoing alert, freelance journalist Jayne McCormack, said there was a large police presence outside the station.
“There are a lot of onlookers and police at Taylor’s Avenue. I can’t get into my house as it’s in the middle of a road block,” she told the Belfast Telegraph.
“There are about 50-60 people about. There are about three police cars and around 10 officers that I could see.”
