Derry man on mortar bomb charges faces new probe (Derry Journal)

A man charged in connection with the discovery of four mortar bombs while in transit in Derry earlier this month is to be questioned about other offences.

Gary McDaid, of Glenowen Park, is currently on remand after being refused bail in relation to the bomb find at Letterkenny Road.

The 37-year-old is charged with conspiracy to cause an explosion, possession of four mortars and a pipe bomb and possessing a van for use in terrorism.

The offences were allegedly committed on March 3.

At Derry Magistrate’s Court this morning McDaid was released into police custody for up to three days.

An investigating officer confirmed to the court the application was made so the accused could be questioned about other offences.

McDaid must be brought back to court on or before 11am on March 28.
