Protestors call on Peter Robinson to resign (NewsLetter)
Protest organisers have said their aim is no longer to have the Union Flag reinstated at City Hall all year round – but have outlined a list of demands including the resignation of First Minister Peter Robinson.
Also included in the demands are public enquiries into the Kingsmills Massacre and Enniskillen bombing among other incidents throughout the Troubles.
Those behind a Facebook page where much of the protest information is posted are also asking that the Maze prison site – which it was recently announced will be the site of the Balmoral show this year – be demolished.
The post also demands “respect and investment” for the Protestant, Loyalist, Unionist community.
It reads: “We are proud British subjects loyal to the crown and Union Flag. We won’t stand idly by like our elected representatives have done and watch our culture and identity be destroyed by the enemies of Ulster. No surrender ever.”
Protestors have vowed to bring Northern Ireland to a standstill on Friday with a series of protests between 6pm and 8pm.
