MEETING, MARIAN PRICE INTERNATA IN ISOLAMENTO
Human rights activists to hold public meeting to discuss Marian Price case (Newswireni)
Human rights activists will hold a public meeting on Thursday to discuss the case of veteran republican Marian Price.
The meeting, which is not affiliated to any political organisation or group, has been organised by local human rights activists from various backgrounds. The discussion will also include the 58-year-old Ms Price’s long-term isolation at Maghaberry and how this has taken it’s toll on her health.
Ms Price has been held in solitary confinement at Maghaberry Prison for over nine months without charge. She was arrested after holding a piece of paper for a masked man at an annual Easter Rising commemoration in Derry, a few days later Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Owen Paterson revoked her release from prison on license.
Campaigners for her release say the public should be outraged that a woman nearing 60 is being held without proper charge in total isolation. Her health is, at this stage, of serious concern.
The platform speakers on the evening will include world renowned human rights activist and former Armagh Gaol Chaplain Monsignor Raymond Murray, Marian’s legal representative and SDLP Mla Pat Ramsey.
The meeting, the first in a series planned will take place in the Tower hotel in Derry at 7.30pm. All are welcome.
