DUE ESPLOSIONI A DERRY
Two blasts in Derry (UTV)
There have been two explosions in Londonderry.
One of the blasts was outside the Tourist Office on Foyle Street and the other outside the Benefits Office at Strand Road.
A telephone warning was given for both incidents, and the areas were evacuated.
No injuries have been reported and police are at the scene of both alerts.
SDLP Foyle MLA Pat Ramsey has strongly condemned two bomb alerts in Derry that have caused panic and disruption in the City tonight.
Mr Ramsey said: “Two devices, one on Strand Road close to the Derry City Council offices and another at the Tourist Information Centre, have caused a wave of panic and serious disruption in the City centre and many arterial routes tonight. Both were called in with coded messages and the Police are taking the threats seriously. The Craigavon Bridge is closed as is Foyleside and the surrounding area. I would urge everyone to avoid the City centre, and to avoid primary roads in and out of the City Centre to ensure that everyone who may have been working can move out of the area. I am absolutely infuriated that this further attack on the community has sought to cripple the businesses and infrastructure in the heart of the City. Those who carried out these heinous acts have succeeded only in strengthening the resolve of us all that we will work collectively to act for the positive future of this City and its citizens.”
