DERRY. ATTI VANDALICI NELL’INTERFACCIA DEL FOUNTAIN

Fountain interface incidents condemned (Derry Journal)
Two incidents of vandalism at the Bishop Street/Fountain interface have been condemned.
A large hole was smashed in the wall separating Bishop Street and the Fountain in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The incident was condemned by unionist politicians and Fountain residents who said it was an attack on the people of the area.
A plaque in a peace garden at the top of nearby Nailor’s Row, close to the interface, was also removed over the weekend.
It has been claimed that the plaque, which stood in St Columba’s peace garden, was used to damage the wall.
Foyle MP Mark Durkan said; “I strongly condemn those responsible for these attacks and would urge anyone with information to contact the PSNI so that a full investigation can be carried out.
“The St Columba’s Peace Garden was established to promote and advance friendship and harmony among the people of our city, and symbolise the positive work being done locally in different aspects of peace building, community work, sustainability and social justice.
“Those responsible for this wanton destruction do absolutely nothing to further the vision of a shared future or contribute to the strengthening of relationships between our communities.”
