CONGEDO DALL’ESERCITO PER UNO DEI FERITI NELLA STRAGE DI MASSEREENE
Il Ministero della Difesa afferma che il provvedimento è stato reso necessario dalle precarie condizioni mediche del soldato in seguito alle ferite riportate nell’attentato del Real IRA
Furono due le vittime dell’attentato del Real IRA alla base armata di Massereene il 7 marzo 2009: Patrick Azimkar, 21 anni e Mark Quinsey, 23 anni. Ma nell’imboscata avvenuta mentre stava avvenendo la consegna di pizze a domicilio presso l’ingresso della base armata, furono altri soldati a rimanere gravemente feriti.
Un portavoce del Ministero della Difesa ha ieri dichiarato che il geniere congedato “era uno di quei feriti, al momento della sparatoria lui molto fu gravemente ferito E’ stato congedato per motivi medici…” ed ha aggiunto: “aveva ricevuto un certo numero di ferite tra cui una alla gamba.”
Il 38 Regimento Genieri è in procinto di essere trasferito dalla base di Massereene a quella Adelgrove.

A soldier injured in a Real IRA shooting, which killed two colleagues, has been discharged from the army on medical grounds.
The sapper, from Great Britain, suffered multiple injuries including leg wounds in the attack outside Massereene army base in Antrim on 7 March 2009.
Sappers Patrick Azimkar, 21, from London, and Mark Quinsey, 23, from Birmingham, were killed.
They were taking a pizza delivery when they were ambushed at the gates of the base.

An MoD spokesman confirmed: “He was one of those injured at the time of the shooting. He was very seriously injured. He has been discharged on medical grounds.”
He added: “He received a number of wounds including an injury to the leg.”
The 38th Engineer Regiment are in the process of moving from Massereene to Aldergrove.
The soldiers who were killed were due to be deployed to Afghanistan. A total of four people were injured in the incident, including two pizza delivery drivers.
Their deaths came two days before Pc Stephen Carroll, 48, was shot dead by the Continuity IRA, as he attended an emergency call-out in Craigavon, Co Armagh.
