Altro colpo messo a segno dal Garda nelle contee di Louth e Meath dove è stata rinvenuta uan ‘discarica’ di armi

Nuovo ‘significativo’ colpo messo a segno dalla polizia irlandese nell’ambito della massiccia operazione volta ad ostacolare il costante incremento dall’attività dissidente nel Nord Irlanda.
Una vera e propria ‘discarica’ di armi quella rinvenuta in un’area boschiva nei pressi di Dunleer, contea di Louth.
Tre chili di TNT, un mortaio artigianale e una mitragliatrice, si vanno ad aggiungere al quantitativo di Semtex e detonatori sequestrati durante i raids dello scorso week end che hanno portato all’arresto di 10 persone tra cui una donna.
Compiacimento esternato dal Commissario del Garda che tiene a ribadire la costante e preziosa collaborazione con il Police Service of Northern Ireland.
“Continuiamo a lavorare a stretto contatto con i colleghi della PSNI per contrastare l’intento di un piccolo gruppo di persone che vogliono infliggere violenza e dolore alla comunità.
“Il nostro obiettivo è quello di fermarli e di portarli davanti ad un giudice con prove sicure.”
Dermot Ahern ha dichiarato con soddisfazione: “Questo è stato un ritrovamento ‘significativo’ in un momento in cui la minaccia da parte di gruppi dissidenti pone in pericolo le persone che rispettano la legge”.
Owen Paterson, segretario di Stato per l’Irlanda del Nord  ha consigliato di non sottovalutare la minaccia terroristica e ribadisce che la cooperazione tra i governi britannico e irlandese è “la migliore di sempre”.

Bomb parts found in Louth arms dump (UTV)
An arms dump, including three kilos of TNT, an improvised mortar and a machine gun, has been uncovered by anti-terror detectives in the Republic of Ireland.
The find was made in a wooded area near Dunleer in Co Louth during searches in both the Louth and Meath areas, as part of the ongoing operation against dissident republicans.
It comes after Semtex plastic explosive and detonators were seized during raids at the weekend, in which ten people were also arrested.
The latest development has been described as “significant” by the Garda Commissioner.
“This find represents a further step in our determined strategy to target, disrupt and detect the activities of dissident republicans,” Fachtna Murphy said.
“We continue to work closely with our colleagues in the Police Service of Northern Ireland and in the Security Service to thwart the intent of a small group of people who want to inflict violence and pain on communities.
“Our objective is to stop them in their tracks and secure evidence to put them before the court.”
Justice Minister Dermot Ahern added: “This was a very significant find at a time when the threat from dissident groups poses dangers for law-abiding people.”
It is the second time this year that material for a suspected mortar bomb attack has been uncovered by authorities.
A device suspected of being made into a mortar was uncovered near Dundalk, Co Louth, in May.
Speaking in Belfast earlier on Monday, the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland said that dissident groupings should never be allowed to succeed.
Owen Paterson said he doesn’t underestimate the terrorist threat, but that co-operation between the British and Irish governments is “at its best ever”.
