I familiari di John Brady hanno tenuto una protesta in occasione di una riunione del District Policing Partnership a Derry

Lorna Brady ha guidato la protesta di un gruppo di 30 manifestanti in occasione di un incontro del District Policing Partneship svoltosi presso il Waterfoot Hotel, nell’area di Waterside a Derry.
John Brady, 40 anni all’epoca della sua morte e originario di Strabane, venne rinvenuto cadavere lo scorso ottobre nella stazione di polizia di Strand Road a Derry. Sulla sua morte sta attualmente ancora investigando il Police Ombudsman, nonostante il decesso sia stato classificato come suicidio.
Il tema del DPP di mercoledì è stato la violenza domestica.
In occasione della protesta, Lorna Brady ha letto un comunicato in cui si affermava che l’argomento riguardante la morte del fratello John era stato deliberatamente escluso dall’ordine del giorno.
Non sono mancate le parole di disprezzo rivolte a Elisha McLaughlin, presidente del DPP, rea di aver inserito erroneamente una data di morte di Brady, in una lettera poi recapitata alla famiglia.
“Credo che il DPP stia cercando di spazzare la morte di John sotto al tappeto. Non vogliono essere ritenuti responsabili” ha aggiunto Lorna.
I manifestanti sono stati poi dispersi ed il meeting è continuato senza intoppi.

Dissident protest at DPP meeting (U TV)
The family of a dissident republican who is thought to have taken his own life in police custody have staged a protest at a District Policing Partnership meeting in Londonderry.
John Brady, 40, who was originally from Strabane, was found dead in a police cell at Strand Road PSNI station in October, after being arrested over an alleged assault while on weekend parole from prison.
His death is investigated by the Police Ombudsman.
Around 30 protestors carried out a demonstration at the Waterfoot Hotel in Derry’s Waterside area on Wednesday.
Domestic violence was the theme of the meeting, a day after a Coroner’s inquest concluded that a convicted sex offender killed all seven members of his family in the Lammy fire tragedy in 2007.
Protester were joined by Mr Brady’s sister, Lorna Brady, who read out a statement in which she claimed her brother’s death was deliberately kept off the agenda.
Ms Brady also criticised the chair of the DPP Chair Elisha McLaughlin for incorrectly stating the date of her brother’s death in a letter sent to the family.
“We as a family feel this letter was deeply offensive and contemptible given that Elisha McLaughlin could not get the date of John’s death correct”, Lorna Brady said.
“I believe that the DPP is trying to brush John’s death under the carpet. They don’t want to be held accountable,” she told UTV.
The protestors later dispersed, and the meeting continued without incident.
After the meeting Ms McLaughlin apologised for the error in the letter, while Sinn Fein MLA and DPP member Martina Anderson said steps would be taken to ensure that a letter containing such inaccuracies would never be sent out again.
“I can understand the hurt and the pain that was caused to them”, she said.
A paramilitary funeral was held in Strabane, following Mr Brady’s death. Between 300 and 400 people gathered outside the family house for the show of strength.
