Sventato probabile attentato contro Ian Paisley Jr

La polizia ha sventato il tentativo di omicidio per mano dissidente repubblicana, contro il membro dell’Assembly dell’Irlanda del Nord, Ian Paisley Jnr.
Il figlio quarantaduenne dell’ex primo ministro  Ian Paisley ha riferito che gli agenti lo hanno contattato per informarlo dello scongiurato attacco da parte di “estremisti violenti che si oppongono al processo di pace”
Il rappresentante per il North Antrim del DUP si è detto soddisfatto delle misure che la polizia ha preso per garantire la sua sicurezza.
“Mi hanno messo a conoscenza di questo tentato omicidio e sono soddisfatto perchè sono stati capaci di sventarlo con le loro azioni” così ha riferito Paisley Jnr. E ancora ribadisce “”Sono molto soddisfatto del modo in cui la polizia ha affrontato la situazione.”
Paisley, membro del Northern Ireland Policing Board, è il più recente obiettivo politico di alto profilo ad essere stato sotto la minaccia da dissidenti.
Rappresentanti del Sinn Fein e Jim Allister,  leader del “Traditionalist Unionist Voice Party” , sono stati avvertiti dei rischi che corrono per la loro sicurezza.
Nel frattempo, un certo numero di membri della forza di sicurezza hanno dovuto lasciare le loro case, dopo che la polizia ha informato loro di essere potenziali bersagli degli estremisti.
L’ex ministro dell’esecutivo di Stormont ha detto che non permetterà a queste minacce di mettere fuori strada il suo lavoro in seno all’Assembly.
“E’ una di quelle cose che hanno con cui ci si deve fare i conti, ma non mi scoraggerà in alcun modo”, ha detto.
Un portavoce della PSNI ha detto che la polizia non rilasciato commenti sulla sicurezza delle persone. Ma ha aggiunto: “Tuttavia, se riceviamo informazioni che la vita di una persona possa essere a rischio, noi di conseguenza la informiamo. Non ignoriamo mai ciò che può mettere a rischio un individuo”.
Il presidente del “Northern Ireland Policing Board” Barry Gilligan ha condannato la minaccia nei confronti di Paisley Jnr con queste parole:”Il Segretario di Stato Hillary Clinton ha lanciato un messaggio molto chiaro, definendo coloro che cercano di distruggere la pace e la quotidianità delle persone normali come ‘fuori fase e fuori tempo’. Quelli dietro alla minaccia a Ian e dietro alle recenti minacce ad altri rappresentanti pubblici e agli agenti di polizia, non hanno assolutamente nulla di positivo da offrire e le loro azioni devono essere condannate”.

Police ‘foil dissident plot to kill Ian Paisley Jnr’ (Belfast Telegraph)
Police have foiled a dissident republican murder bid against Northern Ireland Assembly member Ian Paisley Jnr, he said today.
The 42-year-old son of former Stormont first minister the Rev Ian Paisley said officers contacted him to inform him of the thwarted attack by violent extremists opposed to the peace process.
The Democratic Unionist North Antrim representative said he was satisfied with the steps the police have now taken to enhance his security.
“They made me aware of a murder bid and I am satisfied they have been able to foil that by their actions,” the married father of four said.
“I am very satisfied with the way the police have dealt with the situation.”
Mr Paisley, a member of the Northern Ireland Policing Board, is the latest high profile politician to come under threat from dissidents.
Senior Sinn Fein representatives and Jim Allister, the leader of the hard-line Traditionalist Unionist Voice party, have also been warned abouts risks to their security.
Meanwhile, a number of security force members have had to leave their homes after police advised them they could be potential targets for the extremists.
The ex-junior minister in the Stormont Executive said he was not going to allow the threat to sidetrack him from his work in the Assembly.
“It’s one of those things you have to deal with but it won’t deter me in any way,” he said.
A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokeswoman said the service did not comment on the security of individuals.
She said: “However, if we receive information that a person’s life may be at risk, we will inform them accordingly. We never ignore anything which may put an individual at risk.”
Northern Ireland Policing Board chairman Barry Gilligan condemned the threat against the board member.
He said: “Secretary Clinton sent a very clear message that those who would try to disrupt the peace of people going about their daily lives are ‘out of step and out of time’.
“Those behind the threat to Ian and recent threats made to other public representatives and police officers have absolutely nothing positive to offer and their actions must be condemned.”
