MINACCE SETTARIE SUL WEB
Residenti lealisti dell’area The Fountain di Derry, sotto il tiro di minacce settarie sul social network Bebo
Un articolo del Londonderry Sentinel riporta la notizia secondo cui un gruppo di giovani repubblicani di Derry denominati ‘Bishy (Bishop Street) Brandywell Flag Bandits’, avrebbe messo in atto un campagnia di violenza settaria contro i residenti dell’area lealista The Fountain attraverso una pagina di Bebo.
All’interno del profilo web è stato pubblicato un album fotografico intitolato ‘Sectarian bastards – attack on sight’ contenente 25 fotografie (tra cui quella di un agente del PSNI morto) ad indentificare altrettante persone residenti nella zona, e seguite da commenti dai contenuti anche forti.
Trovano spazio anche immagini ritraenti gli utenti stessi del profilo Bebo durante il furto di bandiere issate nei quartieri lealisti come Lincoln Courts e The Fountain. Sembra che questa ‘operazione’ abbia avuto inizio nel mese di maggio, ma l’album mostra aggiornamenti anche a luglio.
Le bandiere dovrebbero venir bruciate in occasione dei bonfires nazionalisti del 15 agosto.
L’intenzione primaria del pagina web pare essere quellla di provocare una reazione lealista e il post intitolato “To all you Orange bastards who are reading this – We dare you to come to the Foyle Road on the 15th” (A tutti vuoi bastardi lealisti che state leggendo – Vi sfidiamo a venire in Foyle Road il 15 (Agosto) etichettato nella sezione ‘cancerous’ (cancerogeno), ne sembra una chiara dimostrazione.
Una sezione del profilo rivela che lo sfregio della parte centrale di un mural di Bond Street raffigurante la regina, è responsabilità di un gruppo di giovani nazionalisti. Sotto all’immagine è riportata la dicitura “From Bond Street to our bonfire”.
Gregory Campbell del DUP ha definito l’azione di questi repubblicani come ‘vile e fastidiosa’, dichiarando che ciò va ben oltre la spazzatura che si trova quotidianamente su internet.
“C’è un onere a carico degli amministratori del sito, qualunque sia la legge. Più passa il tempo, più il fallimento dell’autoregolamentazione vedrà una maggior pressione a livello internazionale per i governi che l’hanno regolata. Questo deve essere rimosso dal sito”.
Il PSNI, come sempre in questi casi, ribadisce di poter intervenire solo nel momento in cui viene ravisato un reato all’interno della propria giurisdizione.
Fountain residents being targeted on website of hate (Londonderry Sentinel)
Republican youths in Londonderry are conducting a sectarian campaign against residents of the Fountain on a social networking site, the Sentinel can reveal.
The gang, calling themselves the ‘Bishy (Bishop Street) Brandywell Flag Bandits’, have posted a selection of 25 pictures specifically identifying people from the area. The title of the so-called photograph ‘album’ is ‘Sectarian b******s – attack on site.’
The photographs also include one of a dead PSNI officer, accompanied by a sick caption.
The rest of the pictures have also been given captions, some of which are too vile for publication here.
In the build up to this week’s Apprentice Boys Parade contributors to the webpage have posted dozens of pictures of themselves stealing flags from loyalist areas across the city, including Lincoln Courts as well as the Fountain. The flags are to be burned on nationalist bonfires on August 15.
One goading piece of information on the site reads: “To all you Orange b******s who are reading this – We dare you to come to the Foyle Road on the 15th.” It goes on to label them “cancerous”.
There have been ongoing clashes at the Fountain/Bishop Street interface over the past few months. It has also been noted that nationalist youths have been gathering at the Foyle Road in attempts to encourage clashes with youths from the Fountain in the Wapping Lane area.
According to the dates and times on some of the photos posted on the site the removal of flags appears to have been ongoing since May – but the newest postings reveal that it has been going on as recently as July 28.
Another section of the webpage reveals that the centre section of the mural of the Queen removed from a wall in Bonds Street some months ago was taken by nationalist youths. The wording beneath the picture placed on the webpage says of the mural: “From Bond Street to our bonfire.”
The DUP’s Gregory Campbell said: “Unfortunately the internet does contain material which people find offensive – that is one thing. But, this is a on a different level. It is reprehensible and obnoxious.
“There is a threat of violence there by enticing people to come to a certain area at a certain time. It needs to be acted upon.
“There’s an onus on the administrators of the site whatever the law is. The longer time goes on, the failure of self-regulation will see more pressure at an international level for governments to have it regulated. This should be removed from this site.”
The police in Londonderry told the Sentinel: “We do not monitor internet sites on a day-to-day basis. However we will take appropriate action when we receive complaints of criminal offences that occur within our jurisdiction.”
