DISPOSITIVO “GREZZO MA IN GRADO DI ESPLODERE” RINVENUTO A DERRY

‘Crude but viable’ device in Derry alert (UTV)
Police have carried out a controlled explosion on a “crude but viable” device during a security alert in Londonderry.
The suspicious object was discovered at Talbot Park on Thursday by a member of the public.
Cordons were put in place and several homes had to be evacuated while officers from the army bomb squad carried out investigations, which culminated in a controlled explosion.
The alert has now ended and the device has been taken away for further examinations.
A statement from the PSNI said: “A controlled explosion was carried out on the object which has been described as a crude but viable device.
“The device has been taken away for further examination, all roads have been re-opened and evacuated residents allowed to return to their homes.”
Earlier local journalist Eamonn MacDermott, who lives in the area, told UTV he understood the alert was sparked when a woman found an object containing wires underneath a car.
He said: “Apparently at about 1pm a resident came out and found something under her car that she thought was just a bit of rubbish. She picked it up and it looked suspicious, described as a round plastic thing with wires coming out of it, so she placed it in her garden and phoned the police.”
Officers have asked anyone who noticed recent suspicious activity in Talbot Park to contact them.
