Thousands take part in UVF parade (UTV)
The event was a re-enactment of one of the key events of the Home Rule crisis.
One hundred years ago at Fernhill House in the Glencairn area, unionist leader Edward Carson inspected members of the new west Belfast regiment of the Ulster Volunteer Force.
PUP leader Billy Hutchinson, as Lord Carson, took part in Saturday’s event.
The party later tweeted: “Great show of support from the Greater Shankill Community today for the Ulster Day Celebration at Fernhill House.”
The parade featured many historical artifacts dating back to the beginning of the 20th century.
It comes one year after tens of thousands of people took part in a parade through Belfast to mark the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Ulster Covenant.
The centenary culminated in a huge cultural festival staged in the grounds of Stormont to commemorate the 1912 proclamation against plans for Home Rule in Ireland.
