Royal Black: We will not allow our Britishness to be diluted (NewsLetter)

Friends and members of the Royal Black Institution throughout the Commonwealth have been urged to support their counterparts in Northern Ireland against what are deemed to be ongoing attacks “on our identity and culture”.

Sovereign Grand Master of the Royal Black Millar Farr told those gathered at Ballyronan in Co Londonderry that the Institution’s members had resolved to proudly state their Britishness and called for the support of other members as far away as Ghana and New Zealand.

He was speaking at one of six Last Saturday demonstrations across the Province.

Mr Farr referred to the removal of the Union Flag from Belfast City Hall after a council vote in December.

“The flag of any country should be treated with dignity and respect and its appearance in public should not be limited or restricted,” he said.

“The adaption of such a policy is viewed by many as an attempt to dilute our identity and deny us the right to show allegiance to this United Kingdom to which we belong.”

This resolution followed two others on faith and continued loyalty to Her Majesty the Queen.
