‘OPERATION STANDSTILL’, PESANTE ATTACCO CONTRO LA PSNI A CARRICK
Proteste multiple hanno avuto luogo in tutto il Nord in quella che è stata denominata ‘Operation Standstill’, mantendo prevalentemente un carattere pacifico. Gravi gli scontri a Carrick dove la PSNI ha fatto ricorso ai proiettili di plastica e cannoni ad acqua
Un totale di 33 molotov, razzi, pietre e mattoni sono stati lanciati contro le squadre anti sommossa della PSNI dislocate nell’area di West Street a Carrick. Uno degli ufficiali feriti è dovuto ricorrere a cure ospedaliere.
Scontri minori a Newtownabbey dove un autobus è stato dato alle fiamme. Sospesi tutti i servizi della Metro dopo che il veicolo è stato incendiato in O’Neill Road nell’area di Rathcoole.
L’Operation Standstill ha segnato quest’oggi il picco massimo di flag protest in tutto il Nord Irlanda, come massima espressione lealista contro la decisione di rimuovere la Union Flag dalla Belfast City Hall.
Strade bloccate nelle Co Antrim e Co Down, anche aBangor, Newtownards, Castlereagh, Clough, Clonduff, Dundonald, Finaghy, e in tutta Belfast.
