Police probe Bangor ‘shooting’ incident (UTV)

Police are continuing to investigate an alleged shooting incident at the home of an off-duty police officer in Bangor, Co Down.

The incident happened in the Springhill area at around 8pm on Wednesday.

A police spokesperson said: “It is believed that a personal protection weapon was discharged.”

The PSNI say no-one was injured in the incident. However, the officer did receive medical attention as a precaution.

Two men, 45 and 52, arrested on Wednesday night in connection with the incident are still in custody assisting police with their enquiries.

Meanwhile, the PSNI have placed a number of diversions on roads in the area while their investigations continue.

The top of Springhill Road – the slip road from Belfast Road onto Springhill Road – is closed.

Access to Springhill Avenue and Springhill Heights is also closed.

The top of Belfast Road at the flyover is closed in both directions while the Bangor Road, Belfast bound is closed at the Springhill flyover.

Anyone wishing to access to Bangor Road can do so by West Circular Road and the A2 Bangor onslip.

A police spokesperson said: “Roads are anticipated to be closed for most of the day.”
