DUP, DIBATTITO SULLE MISURE DI SICUREZZA IN IRLANDA DEL NORD
DUP Proposing Parliamentary Debates on Security & Military Covenant (DUP)
DUP Deputy Leader, Leader of the DUP Parliamentary Party, Spokesman on Reform and Constitutional issues and Foreign Affairs
The issues for debate will be the security situation in Northern Ireland and the full implementation of the military covenant in all regions of the United Kingdom.
Commenting on the motions Deputy Leader and North Belfast MP Nigel Dodds said, “These are two key issues which we have been focusing on within Parliament for some time. The full implementation of the military covenant is something we have been working towards over many months, alongside our colleague Brenda Hale MLA in the Assembly.
The brutal murder of Prison Officer David Black has reinforced the need to ensure that there are adequate resources in place to tackle the threat posed by dissident republican terrorists. This debate will give a welcome opportunity to highlight these issues and to hear from the Government how they intend to respond to our call.”
Note to Readers:
The text of the motions is as follows;
SECURITY IN NORTHERN IRELAND
That this House extends its deepest sympathy to the family of Prison Officer David Black whose murder represented an attack upon society as a whole; condemns the violence of the various republican terrorist groups now active in Northern Ireland; calls on the Government to work closely with the Northern Ireland Executive in providing the fullest possible protection to members of the prison service and the security forces generally, and to ensure that all necessary resources and measures are deployed to combat the threat from terrorists in Northern Ireland.
IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MILITARY COVENANT
That this House acknowledges the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces and Veterans and supports the full implementation of the Military Covenant in each region of the UK.
