Adams: No place for groups ‘masquerading as IRA’ (Irish Examiner)

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams said that there is no place in society for paramilitary organisations or for displays like at the funeral of Alan Ryan in Dublin last weekend.

A volley of shots was fired at the funeral of the leading member of the Real IRA on Saturday.

This morning, more than 200 Gardaí launched Operation Ambience, arresting 15 men and one woman at addresses in Dublin and in counties Kildare and Meath.

Deputy Adams said that he has no time for groups “masquerading” as the IRA.

“The IRA did the right thing in terms of its resistance to the British, and did the right thing when the peace process was brought forward, that was the courageous thing to do,” he said.

“These groups should go, they should be given no succour.”
