ALLERTA A DERRY SULLA SCIA DI ARRESTI IN AMBITO DISSIDENTE
Derry alert disruption condemned (UTV)
Disruption caused by a security alert in Londonderry, sparked in the wake of suspected dissident arrests in the city, has been condemned – as bomb experts remove a suspicious device from the scene
The arrests were made after a car was rammed by police on the Foyle Road, close to the junction of Ferguson Street, at about 8.20pm on Tuesday.
“Once again we have seen a main thoroughfare in this city closed to local traffic and people going to their work and disrupted from doing so,” SDLP councillor John Boyle said.
“Unfortunately, once again we have witnessed people being taken from their homes in the middle of the night and inconvenienced.
“It’s incumbent on everybody to allow the police to carry out their enquiries.”
A 23-year-old man was arrested in the car, while a suspected rifle also found in the vehicle was removed for examination by forensics and ballistics experts.
Two other men, aged 43 and 54, and a 16-year-old boy were arrested during a follow-up operation.
All four were taken to Antrim Serious Crime Suite for questioning.
The Foyle Road has since been cleared.
