Suspect device: fresh alert at Derry courthouse (BBC News NI)
An alert is under way in Londonderry, in the carpark opposite the city’s courthouse where a 50kg bomb was found on Sunday.
The police have cordoned off an area on Bishop Street between Bishop’s Gate and Society Street, and a section of the city walls.
Several homes and businesses including the courthouse have been evacuated.
It’s understood a motorist reported the suspect device to a carpark attendant, who alerted the police.
Court proceedings have been suspended until Monday.
The earlier device found in the same area was described as a beer keg containing home-made explosives.
The police said it “could have caused death or serious injury”.
