Inoltrata ‘richiesta dell’11esima ora’  (11-1 application) di una band alternativa alla Shankill Star Flute Band nella parata che attraverserà Ardoyne sabato 14 agosto

Sono schermaglie a scandire il trascorrere dei giorni che separano l’interfaccia di Ardoyne dal passaggio dell’Apprentice Boys Parade del 14 agosto prossimo.
Già teatro di gravi disordini in concomitanza della Twelfth Parade, ad Ardoyne la tensione è palpabile e l’Apprentice Boys non si astiene da provocazioni.
La scorsa notte Winston Irvine del North and West Belfast Parades and Cultural Forum, ha confermato la presentazione di una ‘richiesta dell’11esima ora’ (11-1 application) volta ad ottenere il nulla osta alla sfilata di una banda a fianco del Ligoniel Walker Club, facendo da contraltare alla condizione imposta dalla Parades Commission nell’autorizzare il passaggio della parata ad Ardoyne.
La Shankill Star Flute Band era stata bannata dopo l’accusa ricevuta dai nazionalisti di aver come uno scopo la glorificazione di Brian Robinson. La scelta potrebbe ora cadere sulla Hillview Flute Band di Shankill Road.
La Parades Commission si riunirà quest’oggi per prendere una decisione in merito.
Il nocciolo della questione per i lealisti è capire “se la Commissione stia dicendo che Crumlin Road è chiusa a tutte le bande, o se si tratti di dire che è chiusa solo per la Shankill Star. Questa è la preoccupazione all’interno della nostra comunità”, ha sottolineato Irvine.
E’ una guerra di nervi. Il North and West Belfast Parades Forum ora si aspetta la ‘richiesta 11-3’ (11-3 application) formulata dalla Crumlin Ardoyne Residents Association per ottenere il semaforo verde alla presenza di 140 manifestanti in strada.
“Sono consapevoli che probabilmente  scenderanno (in Crumlin Road) 30 Apprentice Boys e riteniamo che questo (atteggiamento) sia molto irresponsabile e provocatorio da parte della CARA”.
Giungono intanto conferme del sit-in che dovrebbe avere inizio alle 7.45 circa di sabato. Martin Og Meehan del Greater Ardoyne Residents Collective ha chiamato all’adunata tutti gli ‘oppositori alla marce settarie” per unirsi a loro in una protesta pacifica.
Sul piano politico, con un comunicato condiviso da William Humphrey (DUP), Hugh Smyth (PUP) e dall’indipendente Frank McCoubre, gli unionisti sollecitano la Parades Commission a respingere la richiesta dell’Apprentice Boys.

Apprentice Boys seek parade change (NewsLetter)
An 11th-hour application has been made by Apprentice Boys for a change of band to walk in Saturday’s controversial north Belfast parade.
Last night, Winston Irvine from the North and West Belfast Parades and Cultural Forum confirmed that “a revised 11-1” has been submitted to the Parades Commission after Monday’s determination banned the Shankill Star band and its supporters, which traditionally carries a banner commemorating UVF killer Brian Robinson – whose victim’s family lives close to the parade route – from going along the route with the marchers.
The Parades Commission are expected to meet to discuss the late application on Wednesday.
Mr Irvine said the Apprentice Boys Ligoniel Walker Club had applied for the Hillview flute band from the Shankill Road to join them on the route.
“The ABOD had done this on the basis that they are addressing the concerns that were laid down to the commission by residents from Ardoyne in relation to the Shankill Star. As far as ABOD are concerned they have not addressed all concerns in relation to the band.
“The important factor in all of this for loyalism is whether the commission are saying the Crumlin Road is closed to all bands, or is it saying it is closed just to the Shankill Star. That is the serious concern within our community.”
Mr Irvine added that the North and West Belfast Parades Forum are also concerned about an 11-3 application from Crumlin Ardoyne Residents Association for 140 protestors to stand along the route.
“They did that in the knowledge there is probably only going to be 30 Apprentice Boys coming down and we feel this is very irresponsible and provocative of CARA.”
On Monday, Martin Og Meehan from Greater Ardoyne Residents Collective called for “all opponents of sectarian marches” to join them in a “peaceful protest” on Saturday.
In a joint statement, DUP councillor William Humphrey, PUP councillor Hugh Smyth and Independent councillor Frank McCoubrey said while the determination to allow the Apprentice Boys to travel their traditional route, down the Crumlin Road, is to be welcomed, “the decision by the Parade Commission not to allow a band to accompany the parade and play even sacred music is deplorable”.
