Shankill woman gets UVF death threat (U TV)
A Shankill woman, who spoke out on television against alleged intimidation texts being sent by the UVF following the loyalist murder of Bobby Moffett, has received a death threat from the paramilitary group.
Tracy Coulter, whose father was murdered during a loyalist feud in 2000, spoke out on UTV Live on Wednesday night.
She revealed that people in the Shankill area had been receiving text messages intimidating anyone showing support for the Moffet family.
Ms Coulter said she has now been informed of a threat against her life emanating from the UVF.
“I’m sitting with bullet proof windows and doors, alarms and cameras because of the UVF,” she told UTV on Thursday.
“It’s because I spoke out yesterday on the news and they obviously didn’t like that. Brave men to pass on another death threat to a woman”.
Bobby Moffett, 43, was shot in the face and chest by two masked men in broad daylight on Friday.
A number of vigils have been held by the family and members of the local community in protest at the killing.
However, it is understood many people in the area have received intimidation texts, warning the community not to support any vigils held in tribute to Bobby Moffett and in support for his family.
A text message seen by UTV reads: “Anyone seen to be giving support to the Bobby protests will be put off the Shankill Road. We (U-V-F) will not stand by and watch these protests carry on for much longer … U-V-F”.
UTV also understands photographs of Bobby Moffett as he lay dying are also being sent to mobile phones.
Ms Coulter added: “I know it’s the UVF, I have received quite a lot of these before. It will never discourage me from publicly speaking out or criticising them. They are completely putting the fear of god into the Shankill community and always have”.
Ms Coulter said she will attend a vigil being held on Thursday night near the spot where Mr Moffett was gunned down.
Mr Moffett’s funeral will be held on Friday.
