Deceduto Tom Travers, sopravvissuto ad un agguato dell’IRA del 1984 in cui trovo’ la morte la figlia

Tom Travers, è spirato nella sua casa di Holywood, nella contea di Down, il Boxing Day (26 dicembre).
Travers era un magistrato che nel 1984 scampò miracolosamente ad un attentato dell’IRA all’uscita da St Brigid’s Church, insieme alla moglie e alla figlia. Lui venne colpito da 6 colpi di arma da fuoco ma sopravvisse, sorte contraria invece per la figlia Mary, ai cui funerali Travers non potè partecipare perchè ricoverato nel reparto di terapia intensiva del Belfast City Hospital.
Nel mese di gennaio il Police Ombudsman porse le proprie scuse ufficiali al magistrato per gli errori contenuti nel rapporto sull’omicidio.

A magistrate who survived an IRA murder attempt 25 years ago in which his daughter was killed has died.
Tom Travers died peacefully on Boxing Day at his home in Holywood, County Down.
In April 1984, he was shot six times by the IRA as he left Mass at St Brigid’s Church in south Belfast with his wife and daughter.
He was seriously injured but his daughter Mary, a schoolteacher, was fatally wounded.
Mr Travers was unable to attend his daughter’s funeral because he was still in the intensive care unit of Belfast City Hospital.
In January, the Police Ombudsman’s office apologised to Mr Travers for errors in a report into the murder.
