Secondo il Chief  Constable, i dissidenti repubblicani si starebbero organizzando per commettere crimini su larga scala.
“Penso che alcuni giovani vulnerabili possano esssere mira di gruppi di dissidenti repubblicani. Vi è una certa evidenza che il reclutamento sia ancora in corso. “, ha detto.
Sir Hugh Orde ha dichiarato di come ci sia stato un incremento nei sospetti a riguardo di dissidenti repubblicani, soprattutto nell’area di Strabane (Co. Tyrone).
“Molta  gente in Irlanda del Nord sarebbe morta negli ultimi 14 mesi se non fosse stata di per l’attività del PSNI e dal MI5”.
Sul ronte lealista il Chief Constable, ha espresso scetticismo sul disarmo dell’UDA e dell’UVF, ma ha ribadito che la sua preoccupazione maggiore è rivolta ai dissidenti repubblicani.

The Chief Constable says dissident republicans are building bigger bombs aimed at killing on a large scale.
However, he could not be any clearer about the threat posed by dissident republicans.
“I do think some vulnerable young people are being targeted by these dissident republican groups and dragged into this unfortunate world,” he said.
“There is some evidence recruiting is still continuing.
“They are being used by the old guard to do their dirty work.”
There has been a huge rise in the number of suspected republican dissidents stopped and searched by police in recent months in areas like Strabane where the dissidents are more active.
However, Sir Hugh Orde said: “People in Northern Ireland would have died in the last 14 months if it had not of been for the activity of the PSNI and by MI5.”
Sir Hugh does not believe dissidents have got their hands on any more weapons or explosives.
“Clearly they have access to small amounts of high explosives including semtex,” he told UTV.
On the loyalist front, Sir Hugh says he is skeptical that the UDA and UVF will decommission within the new sixth-month deadline.
But for now it is the dissidents that worry him most.
“Frankly, if I wake up in the morning at 5.45 with my alarm going off, it means no-one has been killed overnight. We live in that very real situation.”
