TROVATO ORDIGNO A CRAIGAVON

Viable bomb found in Craigavon alert (UTV)

A viable explosive device at the centre of a security alert in a residential area of Craigavon has been made safe by the army.

It was discovered at Carrigart Manor in the Tullygally area on Tuesday morning.

The area was closed to traffic as the army bomb squad was tasked to the scene. Officers made the device safe and it was taken away by police for further forensic tests.

Inspector Leslie Badger from Neighbourhood Policing Team said it could have killed.

“This is a residential area and we are all extremely thankful that this device was detected and that no one was killed or seriously injured,” she said.

“The consequences had this device detonated do not bear thinking about. Obviously the people responsible have little regard for human life.”

Police have asked anyone with further information to call them on 0845 600 8000.
