‘Suspect object’ thrown at Derry police (UTV)

A suspicious object has been thrown at a police vehicle in Londonderry.

It happened in the Charlotte Street area of the city on Tuesday night.

Police said army bomb squad officers have been tasked to the scene and a number of homes have been evacuated due to an ongoing security alert.

The community centre in Anne Street has been opened to evacuees.

Charlotte Street, Barrack Street and the Leckey flyover have been closed to traffic.

There are no further details at the moment.
