Loyalist flag protester Jamie Bryson hit by IFA ban for violence (Belfast Telegraph)

One of the leading loyalist flag protesters, Jamie Bryson, has been temporarily suspended from playing football by the IFA for violent conduct on the pitch.

Mr Bryson, who has become one of the main spokesmen for the protesters, has been banned from playing two matches following an incident while playing for 1st Bangor.

He said he was suspended for a tackle on the pitch.

Mr Bryson also said he was “amused” that his antics on the pitch were of interest to the public.

“I find it highly amusing that this is being brought up. I’m busy on a Saturday at the minute anyway,” he said.

On Friday protesters attempted to bring Northern Ireland to a standstill with illegal demonstrations on many roads across the province.

They are attempting to do the same twice next week with protests — dubbed by organisers as “Operation Standstill” — planned to be held on Monday and Friday evenings.

Mr Bryson said he has “no idea” when the flag protests will end.

“These protests are organised by the people. The people will decide when to bring them to an end,” he added.
