TRAGEDIA AEREA A CORK. McGUINNESS AVREBBE POTUTO ESSERE A BORDO DI QUEL VOLO

Il Vice Primo Ministro nordirladese aveva preso in considerazione l’ipotesi di salire sull’aereo con destinazione Cork, nell’ambito di operazioni di propaganda dello Sinn Fein in vista delle prossime General Election nella Repubblica

Martin McGuinness “miracolato” dal caso. Il Vice Presidente nordirlandese avrebbe infatti potuto essere tra i passeggeri del Manx2, volo numero NM7100, decollato questa mattina dal Belfast City Airport e schiantatosi al suolo al terzo tentativo di atterraggio di fortuna. Sei morti e sei feriti.
La tragedia, imputabile alla fitta nebbia, si è consumata poco prima delle 10 di questa mattina. L’aereo, al suo terzo tentativo di atterraggio, si è catapultato in aria schiantandosi poi sulla pista dal lato del tetto trascinandosi per 1000 ft (poco più di 300 mt) sulla pista, mentre le fiamme inghiottivano la parte anteriore del velivolo.
Martin McGuinness, intervenendo ad una conferenza stampa indetta presso il Belfast City Airport, ha dichiarato: “Questo è un evento molto scioccante e profondamente triste”, e il suo pensiero corre subito alle vittime, “la perdita di vite umane è terribile e i nostri cuori sono con le famiglie di tutti coloro che sono rimaste vittime e anche con le famiglie di coloro che sono rimasti feriti.”
“Questo è un tragitto su cui ho viaggiato in diverse occasioni – in realtà io sarò nel Munster domani e avevo pensato di viaggiare su questo volo, ma che ho deciso di cambiare a causa di altre circostanze”.
“Quindi io sono ben consapevole del fatto che questo è un volo frequentato da persone d’affari, da persone che viaggiano verso Cork per motivi di famiglia e da turisti”.
“Il nostro cuore è spezzato per quelle persone che hanno perso i propri cari in questa vicenda e vogliamo inviare le nostre condoglianze e profonda compassione, in questo che è un momento per loro molto tragico e traumatico” ha aggiunto McGuinness.
L’amministrazione di Stormont, in contatto che i servizi di polizia di entrambo i lati del confine, sta offrendo tutta l’assistenza del caso.

Cork plane crash: Sinn Fein’s Martin McGuinness ‘contemplated flight (Mirror)
Northern Ireland Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness has said he considered taking the ill-fated flight to Cork.
The senior Sinn Fein figure is due to canvass in the area for his party, which is contesting the Republic’s General Election.
He extended his condolences to the families of those who died in the tragedy and said he was familiar with the air route and had travelled on it in the past.
At a press conference in Belfast City Airport, where the flight took-off en route to Cork, Mr McGuinness said: “This is a very shocking and deeply saddening event.
“The loss of lives is awful and our hearts go out to the families of all those who have been bereaved and indeed the families of those people who have been injured.”
He said the Stormont administration was in contact with police on both sides of the border and was offering all assistance it could to help.
Mr McGuinness added: “This is a route I have travelled on a number of occasions – in fact I am going to be in Munster tomorrow and I had contemplated travelling on this flight, but that changed due to other circumstances.
“So I am very conscious of the fact that this is a flight that is frequented by people from the business community, people who have family reasons to travel to Cork and indeed people who are involved in tourism.
“Our hearts are broken for those people who have lost loved ones in this incident and we want to send our condolences and very deep sympathy on what is a very tragic and traumatic time for themselves.”
