Si ripetono gli attacchi settari attraverso graffiti contro ufficiali di polizia, quasi sempre contrasseganti RIRA

Nuove frasi settarie scritte sui muri di un edificio vuoto in Mill Street sono comparse a Coleraine con le quali il Real IRA ha beffeggiato un ufficiale delle forze dell’ordine.
Non si tratta del primo caso come sottolineato dell’Ispettore Capo Nicky Thompson, che ha descritto ‘deplorevole’ l’incidente e chiede aiuto alla comunità per debellare il problema.
“Alcuni elementi criminali nel centro della città non gradiscono l’approccio pro-attivo svolto dai miei agenti”, ha detto ieri. “Questo è un altro attacco deplorevole.
“I colpevoli brandiscono i nomi di particolari ufficiali  sui lati degli edifici. Sono sinistri, e sono spesso firmati con il nome ‘RIRA’ .
“Condanno fortemente gli attacchi, e mi appello alla comunità per aiutarci a catturare i responsabili”.
Thompson invita a non sottovalutare anche l’aspetto economico che implicano tali attacchi.
“Costa un sacco di soldi e tempo ripulire gli edifici”.
“Stiamo attualmente lavorando con il fornitore del servizio CCTV per mettere a fuoco le telecamere su aree particolari della città.”
Anche Adrian McQuillan (DUP) non si è sottratto alle condanne. “L’ultimo attacco è molto losco e rappresenta una minaccia per un ufficiale in particolare”.
“Penso che questo debba essere sottolineato e condannato da tutti i rappresentanti politici” e aggiunge, “John Dallat ha voluto puntare il dito contro murales lealisti nelle aree residenziali di Coleraine. Credo che questi attacchi graffittari siano molto più gravi, dato che essi vengono contrassegnati dal RIRA”.

Sinister graffiti attacks continue in town centre (Coleraine Times)
A Coleraine police chief has condemned a series of vicious graffiti attacks on his officers in the town.
Chief Inspector Nicky Thompson described the ongoing incidents as ‘deplorable’.
There have been numerous instances of high-visibility graffiti in areas in the town centre since the start of the summer.
The latest personalised slur on a local officer, appeared over the weekend on the side of a vacant building at Mill Street and signed ‘RIRA’.
Chief Inspector Thompson is now calling on the public to help stamp out the problem
“Some criminal elements in the town centre do not like the pro-active approach taken by my officers,” he said yesterday.
“This is another deplorable attack.
“The culprits brandish the names of particular officers on the sides of buildings. They are sinister, and are often branded with the name ‘RIRA’.
“I totally condemn the attacks, and I would appeal for the public to help us catch those responsible.”
The Coleraine commander said that there was also a ‘cost element’ to the attacks.
“It costs a lot of money and time to clean up these buildings.
“We are currently working with the CCTV service provider to focus the cameras on particular areas of the town.”
DUP MLA Adrian McQuillan said he was concerned about the graffiti.
“The latest attack is very sinister and represents a threat to a particular officer.
“I think this has to be highlighted and condemned by all political representatives.
“John Dallat was keen to point the finger at loyalist murals in Coleraine estates. I think these graffiti attacks are far more serious, given that they are being tagged by the RIRA.”
A police spokesperson said on Tuesday morning: “Following a spate of graffiti attacks in the Coleraine area officers from the Coleraine Crime Team have arrested a 22 year old man.
“He is currently helping police with their enquiries.”
