Agenti di polizia attaccati la scorsa notte in varie zone della contea di Antrim. Si investiga sul coinvolgimento dei paramilitari lealisti. Due poliziotti feriti

Il primo episodio di violenza è avvenuto a Ballyclare quando un landrover della PSNI in servizio di pattuglia è stata attaccata da una banda di uomini mascherati. Attacco che ha toccato l’apice con il lancio di bombe molotov intorno alle 23.30. Trasportato in ospedale un agente ferito.
Cambio di fronte. Questa volta teatro di un nuovo attacco è stato l’area residenziale di Castlemara a Carrickfergus, dopo un’operazione anti-droga che aveva portato al sequesto di piccoli quantitativi di cannabis. Similari le dinamiche, agenti caricati da una banda di 20 – 25 uomini mascherati. Pioggia di razzi e moltov, pietre e bombe vernice. Ferito un secondo agente.
Parole di condanna quelle di Danny Kinahan, rappresentante UUP: “Cerchiamo di essere chiari – queste sono bande – bande che stanno tentando di affermare una sorta di autorità e di controllo in questi quartieri Il loro comportamento non verrà comunque tollerato e so che associazioni della comunità locale lavorando con determinazione, lo stanno facendo e stanno cercando di fermarli. ”
Tom Campbell, rappresentante dell’Alliance Party, ha aggiunto: “Questo attacco non ha ottenuto nulla se nonlo spreco di preziose risorse di polizia La polizia dovrebbe essere in grado di pattugliare le nostre strade senza paura di essere attaccate in questo modo.”

Two PSNI officers sustained injuries following separate disturbances in Co Antrim.
In Ballyclare, an officer was involved in a routine patrol in a police landrover in the Grange Estate area of the town when the vehicle was attacked by a group of masked men.
It is understood a number of petrol bombs were also thrown during the incident, which occurred around 11.30pm on Tuesday.
The officer was treated for his injuries in hospital but has since been discharged, according to a police spokesperson.
Meanwhile, it emerged that police also came under attack from a group of up to 25 masked men in the Castlemara estate in Carrickfergus.
Missiles, including petrol bombs annd fireworks, were thrown at PSNI personnel as they responded to reports of an assault.
One officer sustained minor injuries in the disturbance.
Condemning the Ballyclare attack, South Antrim MLA Danny Kinahan described the actions of the perpetrators as “unacceptable”.
“As I understand it this was a routine police patrol – officers out checking on the safety of local residents when they were attacked by a group of people firing petrol bombs and lobbing stones and bricks.” the UUP man said.
“Let us be clear – these are gangs – gangs trying to assert some sort of authority and control in these estates. Their behaviour will not be tolerated however and I know the determined work the local community association has been doing to try and stop it.”
Alliance councillor Tom Campbell said: “This attack has achieved nothing except to waste valuable police resources. The police should be able to patrol our streets without fear of being attacked in this manner.”
