Insieme al veterano DUP, il vice primo minstro John Prescott e l’ex-leader conservatore Michael Howard

Ian Paisley Sr, 83 anni, ha avuto l’onore di essere elevato alla House of Commons insieme ad una cinquantina di personaggi di spicco, tra cui il vice Primo Ministro John Prescott e l’ex-leader conservatore Michael Howard.
Paisley va così ad affiancare la baronessa Eileen Paysley, sua moglie.
Peter Robinson ha così commentato la notizia: “Il riconoscimento della lunga e illustre carriera politica di Ian Paisley, è ben meritata.
“Per circa quattro decenni, Paisley ha rappresentato il popolo di North Antrim con distinzione.
“La sua leadership del DUP e le regole di principio nella sua carriera, è degna di questo onore”.
“Un’intera generazione di unionisti  si sono ispirati a Ian Paisley entrando in politica in prima linea. E’ un gigante della politica in Irlanda del Nord e in tutto il Regno Unito.
“So che lui continuerà a lottare per i principi e il popolo unionista dell’Ulster alla Upper Chamber.
“A nome di tutti i membri e sostenitori del DUP mi congratulo per questo riconoscimento”, ha concluso.

Paisley elevated to House of Lords (U TV)
Former First Minister and DUP leader Ian Paisley Sr has been made a peer by the outgoing Labour Parliament.
He was among 50 senior figures elevated to the House of Lords on Friday, along with the deputy prime minister John Prescott and ex-Tory leader Michael Howard.
The former north Antrim MP will now join his wife Baroness Eileen Paisley as a member of the House of Lords.
The former DUP leader, 83, stepped down earlier this month after 40 years as the MP for North Antrim.
Responding to the announcement, First Minister Peter Robinson said:
“The recognition of Dr. Paisley’s long and illustrious political career is well-deserved.
“For some four decades, Dr. Paisley represented the people of North Antrim with distinction.
“His leadership of the DUP and principled position throughout his career is worthy of this honour, he said.
“An entire generation of Unionists were inspired to enter front line politics by Ian Paisley. He is a giant of politics in Northern Ireland and throughout the United Kingdom.
“I know that he will continue to fight for Unionist principles and the people of Ulster in the Upper Chamber.
“On behalf of all DUP members and supporters I congratulate him on this recognition”, he added.
